Pauillac one-hour walking tour #1, France

For the new season, I have a feeling health walks could be a tempting experience for our guests staying at the hotel. And what a better place to start, then by sampling it myself. Thus I designed a tour and loved it… Turn left out of the Château Cordeillan-Bages driveway and head towards the place de la pompe to the sound of the roosters.

Château Cordeillan-Bages

Turn left on rue de Cordeillan and bear right as you enter the vineyard. Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste lies at 3 o’clock on the horizon. Continue in that direction. IMG_0522-2 When you reach a T crossing, turn left. You will see a lonely tree at 9’o clock. Follow the path winding up the hill and bear left. IMG_0523Soon after, to your left on the horizon, unfold three historic estates : Chateau Latour, Pichon Longueville Baron and Pichon Comtesse de Lalande. Can you spot the three? IMG_0526-2 As you reach the plateau, appear several trails at 9 o’clock leading towards the Saint Lambert village and the Gironde Estuary. Borrow one and mingle your way East then South. IMG_0528-1 Follow your instinct to reach the estates and let yourself be surprised. IMG_0531-3 Take the main road turning right for a short stroll et voilà. Majestic. IMG_0538-0 Take a moment to imagine and savor – you’ve walked over 45mn at a decent pace. When ready, cross the street, look left and follow the sign… IMG_0539-0 Enjoy each step of the way, not forgetting to look back one more time.

IMG_0540-1 This is one of those instants when I feel that the trade off from our Paris life is not so bad.

IMG_0550-0From the village of Saint Lambert sign, let your feeling guide you back, or look for the house below with white sheep on the lawn along the main road, or, look up for the blue flag Relais & Chateaux. And once you are back at the hotel, you may wish to take time to discover what has to be one of the most exceptional meals in France: the cuisine of young chef Jean-Luc Rocha, Meilleur Ouvrier de France. IMG_0548 Tried it. Loved it. Shared it.
